Many of Theatre in the Quarter’s main community projects involve schools. Recent examples of school participation include:
Best Days Of Our Lives which involved over 250 children performing alongside 3 professional actors, a choir of 50 adults and a group of musicians. The children were involved in the devising, rehearsing and performing of the production, including the making of a short film, which took place in Chester Cathedral in October 2015.
Over by Christmas - over 1000 children from schools across Cheshire performed alongside the main performance at their local railway station as this piece toured to their town. This involved a number of preparatory workshops in each school
Christmas Productions – Theatre in the Quarter regularly run a series of connected theatre workshops in schools to complement the theme of the Christmas productions.
Other Projects – schools have had a full involvement in the public performances of several productions in the past including Home for Christmas, Opera of the Chester Giants and Forgotten Fortress as well as collaborative projects with companies such as Chester Mystery Plays and Homegrown Dance Theatre. Schools also took part in Angel Voices, a choir festival run by Theatre in the Quarter which formed part of Christmas at St Mary’s in 2015.
There are several projects in development which will involve schools including Pageant of the Dee and Wish.
